The Air Navigation Services division of the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) is to use Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) data provided by the Aireon satellite-based service, IHS Jane's learned on 27 September during the 39th ICAO Assembly in Montréal.
The Seychelles air navigation service provider is responsible for a 2.63 million km 2 Flight Information Region (FIR), equivalent to about one third of the airspace above the Indian Ocean.
Countries in the ICAO Africa-Indian Ocean regional group developed a surveillance strategy for implementing ADS-B with a timeline of 2017. In line with this plan, the SCAA mandates that all aircraft on the Seychelles Civil Aircraft Register must be equipped with ADS-B by 7 December 2017.
