Spain-based AERTEC Solutions has won a contract to oversee the transformation of King Abdulaziz Naval Air Base in Jubail into a civilian airport.
AERTEC will provide planning and conceptual design services for the new airport, which is planned to handle scheduled commercial traffic from 2020. Work at the site will include a runway extension and new parking aprons, as well as passenger and cargo terminal infrastructure.
In line with Saudi government policy to liberalise its civil aviation sector, the Royal Commission of Jubail and Yanbu aims to launch an international tender to attract investors and potential operators for the new airport.
